Green, CSR and e-Invoicing

The world leaders will meet in a few weeks time to discuss global plans to address climate change. http://en.cop15.dk/news/view+news?newsid=2599

What is the relevance to e-Invoicing?  Here are a few observations….

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and targets

Over a year ago many corporations, large and small were talking about their plans for CSR targets, carbon emission challenges and the ‘green’ agenda.

A year ago that all changed with global economic crisis.

Over a year ago ‘green’ was in fashion, many organisations had this high on their agenda.

The credit crunch refocused minds very quickly, the new agenda included:

  • cuts
  • savings
  • cash flow
  • consolidation
  • survival

All of a sudden, being green became less important, it slipped down the agenda.

In addition to this re-focussing, many organisations have simply reduced the staff and resource available to ‘projects’. Projects that don’t deliver very fast, tangible results have been shelved pending the upturn.

There is no doubt that the environmental agenda will re-emerge and gain prominence, probably soon; I give it 3 – 6 months

So, what’s this got to do with e-Invoicing?

e-Invoicing

  • eliminates paper and the associated costs
    • delivery (mail, transport)
    • storage
    • destruction,

as well as the environmental benefits, e-Invoicing

  • saves money
  • improves efficiency
  • improves cash flows for suppliers
  • reduces headcount involved in laborious manual tasks
    • mailroom activities
    • data entry
    • filing and archiving
  • improves data quality

So, with the evitable return of the green agenda, e- Invoicing can help-now – but it requires a project!

The OB10 calculator works out environmental savings based on the number of invoices received (using a third party calculation). We know that there are still billions of paper invoices processed each year – put in a number of a few billion, the results are staggering.
